The story of MYC4
The story of MYC4 began in 2005, where Mads Kjær (CV) and Tim Vang (CV) fortuitously shared a London cab on their way to a conference. Here, ideas and visions emerged, and on the back of an envelope, they drew the outline of MYC4 and planted a seed for what should soon prove to be more than just a good idea.
In the following months, Mads and Tim turned to several hundreds of experts in everything from African social conditions, microfinance and web in order to grasp Africa’s current challenges and, in particular, possible solutions. Among the present megatrends and other entrepreneurial people Mads and Tim were inspired by “The fortune at the bottom of the pyramid”, 2006-Nobel Prize-winner and founder of Grameen Bank, Professor Muhammad Yunus, and the United Nation’s eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
With these great sources of inspiration the vision of MYC4 is to eradicate poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa and thereby contribute to e.g. better education, health, and environmental stability.
Then, in May 2006, MYC4 was founded as a joint venture between Mads Kjær, Tim Vang and Kjaer Group A/S. In December 2006, MYC4 received a grant of DKK 5 million (EUR 670,000) from the Danish Aid Agency (DANIDA) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the development of the MYC4 platform, and so far a lot of other remarkable milestones have followed.
Over the next three years, MYC4 will sign up 12 new co-founders, named Musketeers, who – besides investing in the growth of MYC4 – will act as ambassadors and catalysts for MYC4.
